Out of a huge list of over 1700 nominations, 150 eminent and accomplished people have been selected.Started in 1954, the Padma awards are presented every year into honor the Indians who made the country proud with their achievements and contribution in different fields such as arts, sports, literature etc. The union government has finally announced the winners of the prestigious Padma awards for 2017.

Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award:

Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award:

 * Mohanveena maestro Vishwa Mohan Bhat
* Sakshi Malik, the first Indian woman to win an Olympics medal in Wrestling.
* PV Sindhu, the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics
* Cricketer MS Dhoni (was awarded Padma Shri in 2009 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2007)
* Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand
* Veteran singer Asha Parekh
* Playback singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan
* Singer Sonu Nigam
* Film actor Rishi Kapoor

No one has been selected for the India’s highest civilian award, ‘Bharat Ratna’ for 2017. The award felicitation ceremony will be held on 26th Jan 2017, the 68th Republic Day of India.
